February brings Gifts and Training

 North Curry Fire Bulletin

This monthly update is intended to keep our community informed about the activities and services of Sixes Rural Fire Protection District (RFPD), Langlois RFPD, Port Orford RFPD, and the Coos Forest Protection Association (CFPA). We appreciate the continued support from our neighbors and value the opportunity to share what’s happening across our local area.

Calls & Training

February was a slightly slower month for call volume across the three districts. Sixes responded to 3 calls, Langlois to 5 calls, and Port Orford to 13 calls.

An Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class is currently underway at the high school, held on Saturdays and taught by the outstanding staff from Cal-OR Ambulance. This 60-hour course includes participants not only from the North Curry fire departments, but also from Cedar Valley Fire, Ophir Fire, and Bandon Fire.

EMR certification allows responders to provide medical care above the basic first aid level and just below the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level. This additional training strengthens our ability to deliver timely, effective care when emergencies occur.

Grants & Gifts

Sixes and Langlois were excited to receive new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) through a countywide grant applied for last year. SCBAs are critical safety equipment that allow firefighters to operate in hazardous environments while significantly reducing health risks.

This grant was made possible through collaboration among numerous fire departments in the county. We extend special thanks to Winchuck Fire for hosting the grant and managing much of the administrative work required to bring it to completion. With retail costs nearing $70,000, this equipment would have been extremely difficult for Sixes RFPD to purchase within our limited budget.

In addition, Cal-OR Ambulance generously donated two brand-new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to Sixes Fire, allowing us to fully equip our rescue vehicles. When seconds matter, AEDs can significantly increase survival rates during cardiac emergencies. We are sincerely grateful for this donation and for Cal-OR’s continued partnership in protecting our community.

Upcoming Event: Easter Celebration

Easter is just around the corner, and the Sixes RFPD Auxiliary is preparing for its annual Easter Celebration at the Sixes Grange Hall on April 5th.

Bring the family to meet the Easter Bunny, enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast prepared by your local volunteer firefighters, and take part in our Easter egg hunt featuring more than 2,000 eggs — including several golden egg grand prizes!

Be sure to sponsor a rubber duck for the 4th Annual Duck Derby on the Sixes River. The winning duck takes home $100 cash! Thank you for your continued support—we hope to see you there!
