Sixes Combined Aquatic & Rope Rescue Unit
The Sixes SCARR Team was formed in early of 2024 after a real need was realized to better protect the North Curry County area with more advanced and technical rescue skills. The SCARR team is a volunteer unit that operates under the umbrella of Sixes RFPD and serves the Northern Curry area as well as surrounding communities, working cooperatively with other local rescue units.
Search & Rescue
Trained in multiple search and rescue techniques and operations, the SCARR team also has various ATV units and a Humvee for rescues in the rugged Oregon wilderness. The team has multiple volunteers who are Wilderness First Aid certified to better equip them for any emergency that may arise in the wild and scenic areas we all enjoy.
Water Rescue
SCARR has six certified "Swiftwater Rescue Technicians" on the crew as well as several ocean lifeguards! The volunteers train monthly in our beautiful local waterways everything from swimmer rescue, rigging, and current navigation, all the way to extended hypothermia first aid protocols.
Rope Rescue
The crew has recently completed a 50 hour "Rope Rescue Technician" class and now has eight certified rescuers! This class was finalized in early 2026 and was the final puzzle piece in making SCARR a fully functioning technical rescue unit. This team deals with high angles and safely transporting patients from precarious positions. They train twice per month on ropes, knots, equipment, and on the various beautiful cliffs and bluffs of North Curry County.
